Jim,

I bought my first Jim Duckworth DVD yesterday at Bass Pro and watched it last night with my family.  I have been a bass fisherman for many years and have never concentrated on any other species.  Now that my kids are getting a little older (12 and 9), I decided to get into some other type of fishing so that I could get them interested as well.  I did not want to burn them out trying to bass fish (and not bring anything home).  This year I started trying my hand at crappie fishing.  I have been getting skunked.  I bought your “Crappie fishing at night” DVD hoping to gain some helpful tips and tricks for catching those finicky fish.  Within 10 minutes, I declared the DVD more than worth its cost.  I was very impressed with your delivery of tips.  Thank you for passing on your years of experience. What I would like to know is where on Sardis Lake can I apply your tips in the DVD?  Will anyone get upset with me if I fish the new marina at Sardis Lake ?  Are there any other places that you can think of on Sardis ?  I live close to Sardis , Enid and Arkabutla lakes, however I can make a trip to Pickwick in about 2 hours.  If you know of some places on those lakes I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for your help.
Steve

received 5 DVD's and liked them so much I ordered 5 more. By the way, I was in Springfield this morning at the Bass Pro Outlet and bought 3 Berkley lightning rods for $12.66 each. These are the ones you use the Century reels on. Heck of a deal. Thanks.

Jim
This past summer I bought 3 of your videos.  They are very instructional.  I learn something new every time I watch them.
In your opinion, is it better to weigh down a cedar or Christmas tree at about 15 foot to create structure for crappie and other game fish or to sink the tree down and bait it with cottonseed cake or dog food?
My buddy and I also fish an "older" dock that is on a lake that is down 36 foot due to a severe drought here in Texas.  I have fished using white roadrunner jigs and minnows during the new moon on and off for about the past three months and don't have much than lost sleep and some great blue catfish for my efforts.  Any suggestions about techniques to try during a drought.  There is no rain in sight.  The lake goes down about a foot a month, due to evaporation, water contracts, and as a main source of electricity for the city of Austin.
One last question, do you think that moving water has a positive effect on crappie biting, like in salt water?
Looking forward to your responses.

Merry Christmas.

Jim,
I recently purchased 3 of your vidios, and found them to be a wealth of information! Especialy the one on the float and fly. that is one type of fishing that I haven't done yet, but I plan to do so very soon. I have been trying to find some of your rods, and your float and fly kits, but haven't been able to yet. I checked the matzuo web site, but it doesn't list it. I would like to buy two of the float and fly kits and two rods. Please send me the information, so I can do so.

Thank You!

Jim,
Thank you for the DVDs. I have only looked at the Monster Crappie one so far, but it is great. You mentioned that there is an outdoor/fishing show coming up in January in Nashville. I look forward to going to it. What is the name of the man that will be there with the good light wire jigs? I am having trouble finding such in the 1 ounce size.

I enjoyed our day of sauger fishing and look forward to fishing with you again next year.
 Good fishing, Jerry

Jim,
Just wanted to write and let you know Dad and I went out to Douglas with your new rod and had a great time.

I got back from Cumberland last night, and have talked with all the Guys in the Louisa Bass Club about a link to your site and will be working on it with our web page designer.  Also I have had a LOT of interest in the Club about your rod I was showing off.  Dad and I have went back and bought three more for family members, what a great product.

Thanks again for the info at the seminar at Bass Pro Shops, I will get back with you after the next meeting to let you know what I found out from the club members.  In the meantime take a look at our site and see what you think.  www.Louisabassclub.com

Thanks again

Jim
I just got through watching two more of the videos that I purchased from you. Again, great job! I did notice one change and I wanted to ask you about it. In the shallow water crappie video you mentioned painting the bottom of your float silver, but in the monster crappie video you mentioned painting it green. Which is the “newer” current information and what prompted you to change?

Thanks
Steve

PS Is Matzuo a small company or do they sell there floats to Cabelas, Bass pro ect?

PPS I especially enjoyed you including your Crappie world friends in the monster crappie video.

My name is Chris Johnson. Last year, I purchased 3 of your crappie videos. They were informative and extremely fun to watch. In September, my son and I went to Clear Water Lake in Missouri and trolled Bandit crank baits like we learned from your tape. We started right before sun up and at 8:30 a.m. we pulled into a marina to buy some minnows. The lady at the marina told us that we were wasting our time because the crappie weren't biting. I then opened my livewell and showed her the 17 slabs we picked up trolling that morning. She couldn't believe it. Thanks for the fine videos and looking forward to new ones ( especially about crappie fishing )

Hi Jim,
I got your tapes from TVO, and I have to say they are without a doubt, the BEST instructional fishing tapes that I have ever seen.
I even got my wife to watch your "Nightfishing For Catfish" this morning.  And know what?  She really enjoyed watching it.  That's a first here at the Jackson family.
Jim, I was using the search engine "Google" trying to find the 602 Cardinal Spinning Reel that you mentioned in one of your other videos and can't seem to locate one.  I looked at Bass Pro Shop, Cabelas, and several other fishing suppliers, to your knowledge are the 602's still being made?  If so where could I check on buying one at?  They are made by Abu Garcia right?  Also, Bass Pro Shop doesn't show any Yo-Yo's either, where can you get them?
Hey again without a doubt, you make the very BEST fishing videos that I have ever watched, and I have watched a whole lot of them over the years as I am now 62.
Looking forward to getting the 2 videos I ordered directly from you, and to buying more as they come out.
If you would ever like to show my comments to your customers or write them in a magazine you have my full blessing and permission to do so.  GOOD fishing instructional videos are hard to find like the ones you make.
Thanks Jim for the great videos you and Gerald put out, and God Bless You and Yours.

Hi, Jim   My husband is absolutely crazy about you, and crappie fishing!!   I would like to surprise him for Father's Day, and give him a time of crappie fishing with you the early part of October.  Our anniversary is on the 2nd.  If you would happen to have any openings for a few hours with us, I would LOVE to bring him down there and he and I go out with you.  You name the time and place and we will be there.  If there is any way that you could let me know ASAP, so that I can let him know for Father's Day that would be just awesome!  Thanks so much.  He (Murt) has ALL of your crappie videos and watches them non-stop.  He even thinks that watching them is a romantic evening together........I am still trying to figure that one out!!
I look forward to hearing from you!       Cathy McLeod

Hi Jim: I purchased a couple of your videos and wanted to let you know that after watching your trolling for crappie video I purchased some bandit series 100 crankbaits.  I haven't had much chance to troll but I tried one on my grandson Corbin's line and he caught a nice 20" largemouth on it while cast for post spawn bass.  Corbin is 9, and had caught his first keeper (about 14") on the same trip so it was really a thrill when he hooked and landed the big one.  I didn't catch a bass that size until I was in high school.  Thanks, Jim Heitz in Omaha

Jim:
Just watched the Sauger and Spoonin videos last night. Outstanding!!!! I
talked to you on the phone a week or so ago. We talked about Billy.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much I liked the videos. Looking
for a video on how to fish the Jimmy D. I am affiliated with Slider as you
are. Have never had great luck with the Whirly Bee and thought maybe I am
fishing it wrong or something. Maybe a video or discussion via the phone
could get me on catching fish with your Jimmy D.

AS ALWAYS...............HAIL TO THE SMALLIE

Hey Jim,

Fishing in fairly stained water, When do you feel like you are fishing too shallow with the Kentucky rig and switch to a slip bobber or other method so you don't spook the fish? My home waters in eastern N.C. are fairly shallow. Max depths around 12 to 15 feet. I purchased all of your crappie videos and am waiting for more. Best instructional videos I have ever seen. Great job! Thanks. Ed Jackson

Jim,

With my birthday early in December, followed by Christmas, my wife treated me to one of your DVDs and I have since bought most all your videos. You are a fine  teacher! Best wishes for many more years of loving your work. Couple of quick questions. 1) Your sauger video mentioned a 'sauger kit' collection of your best jigs with your  hooks and swivels. Is that kit for sale? Couldn't find it on your website.
2) Have you yet made a striper video in TN, especially a fall/winter version?
3) I am pretty much a novice fisherman, and bought my first fishing boat recently.  What is the ballpark cost of booking guide trips with you to better learn techniques  that I can transfer to my local lakes. Is the total cost the same whether I book one  either solo or along with one of my buddies from work?  cheers, -

Jim,

My name is Bill  and I bought your Deep Water Crappie tape, and got  to talk to you
a little it at Bass Pro Shops this past Saturday. I would  like to tell you I really like the tape, it was exactly
what I wanted. In really like the PVC brush piles you use, I have tried something like that,  using a
4 inch piece as a trunk then using 1 1/2" PVC as limbs, but yours  are much less expensive, and I like them better.
I would also like to get  your rates for a guided trip, for some of those deep water crappie.
Thanks  Again.
 Bill

Hi Jim !

Tony and I finally got to watch your Float n Fly video and all we can say is "WOW" !
It was the best fishing tape we have watched in a long while.... You did an excellent job
explaining the float n fly, showing how to work the float n fly and as always catching
good numbers of Spots and Smallies !

It was very informative and well done... we realize from watching your tape a ton of
things we could have done differently and even tried on Dale last weekend. It was our
first time this year on Dale learning and so we practiced the float n fly for Saturday and
Sunday, with catching two smallies each day. We now have a better idea of how to
work the bobber and duck jig and the right way to cast it too. Saturday was windy
and overcast and we caught fish at 12, Sunday comes around and its bluebird and
fairly calm and we couldn't figure out areas to fish...

We just wanted to say Thank you for making this tape as well as all the others you have
done. We plan on watching the other two bass videos this weekend and when time and
money permits --- order the rest of your videos for our growing collection.

I have to say watching your tape was Great but meeting you one day will be even better!
Hopefully one day soon we can make plans on a guided trip with you on Dale Hollow
... Now thats going to be a great day !

Barb and Tony

Jim,

Just wanted to take a minute and express my appreciation to you for taking the time and discussing various techniques and sharing your knowledge with me. Thank you also for the tapes and baits. I watched all three of your bass videoes and now have a "Jim Duckworth" section in one of my fishing notebooks to add to my collection of gathered information. The videos were awesome. I can't wait for the flipping jig one with Jay Yelas who is one of my all time favorites. I think it's wonderful what you are doing. You have the perfect down to earth personality and a genuine love for the sport and for helping others like myself. You get to do the things everyday most of us can only dream about, yet you take the time to let your enthusiasm flow over to those who come in contact with you. I think it's great and wish we had more like you out there in the sport. I hope someday if I am able to enter the field whether it be through tournaments, guiding, or through a job I can do the same for people. Keep up the good work and again thank you for everything. It really meant alot to me. Tell Ramona hello for me. (I apologize if I mispelled the name.)

Tight Lines,

Harry

I recently purchased your Float and Fly technique video.  This is absolutely the best instructional video I have seen.  I compliment you on the production techniques, the filming and, most of all, the content.  Yours is the first instructional video, or book, that I have ever encountered that actually provides specific location information for trying the technique demonstrated.

I am an avid smallmouth fisherman and fish Dale Hollow regularly.  I am very familiar with all of the areas you suggested and fished but I was so impressed that you were willing to share knowledge that most, if not all, consider a secret of national security proportions.  I particularly enjoyed, and agree with, your statement that Dale is a public lake.

I do have two questions. Where can I purchase the Fenwick HMX rod that you recommend?  Neither Bass Pro nor Cabala's list the 8'6" model in their catalogues. Do you personally guide on Lake Pickwick?  If so,  I would appreciate information about your availability and rates.

Thank you again for a great product. I plan to purchase additional videos that you have produced and hope you will continue to develop new topics.  One suggestion that I have is an exploration of both the blade bait and fly and rind lures and associated techniques.  I have seen little to nothing on the subject of how to successfully fish these great lures

 Jim:

We are brand new to fishing, we don't know much, but we know we love your videos.
I can't get any rest, my wife has become a Jimmy D Jug Fishing  fanatic!
I want to tell you how much fun we've had this year, thanks to what you
taught us about jug fishing. We have spent so much time together, because she
makes me take her to the lake every time she feels like it, and she feels like it a lot.
Her eyes light up just like Christmas Morning, when she hears jingle-bells,
and sees those Jimmy D jugs bouncing in the water. I have to say, I'm looking forward to
the time she will let me pull one in; I know it's got to feel great! For now though,
I'll just be content to do as she says, and drive the boat, and bait the hooks.
The two best purchases I made in 2003 was a fishing boat, and your Jim Duckworth's,
"Night Fishing for Catfish" video. Your video told the truth. We caught many, and large, large, fish.
I would have never believed you could catch fish of this magnitude on something so simple.
After learning you could fish with a pole, and which end you hold, we made a trip to Percy Priest Lake
to try our hand at that. After three casts, > she pulled in a 5 pound 22 inch large mouth, needless to say,
we're - - she's  hooked on fishing. It was all the boat could do, to get the fish and her head
back to Elm Hill Marina.  I'm trying to get all of your videos. The one I can't find at Nashville
Bass Pro is "Fishing Hot-Water Discharges." Can I order this from you?
Thanks,
Gene, (Wanda's Husband)

I received your Jiggin' for Sauger video last Saturday and immediately watched it.  I really enjoyed it.  The tips were very informative.  I especially appreciated the fact that you did not try to sell expensive gear and pointed out ways to save some expense.  I literally live check to check so the fact that you do that helps me a lot.  I went fishing for the toothy critters on Monday the 8th below Ft. Loudon dam.  If you are not familiar with the dam, it's configuration is basically the same as Hull's, which you used in the video I believe.  I am without a boat, which is a hindrance.  I fished the lock side of the dam and used your tip on the double tuffy rig.  I have never seen that before and thought it was a brilliant idea.  I used a single red hook instead of the treble though to try to avoid snagging so often. I also used a 1/2 oz. jig head with a 3" white curly grub instead of the 1 oz. brute in your video since I have to cast the rig.  I did get about 5 bites and landed one 12".  I believe the double rig allowed me this small success since I caught it on the back hook.  I believe the water in this area is about 12-14 ft. deep and  Monday's weather was sunny which probably did not help either.  They were generating and spilling water so I was in the eddy portions.  I am going tomorrow and Monday.  Am I too early for Sauger?  Do you have any tips for land locked people, lures, colors, rigs, etc.? I've toyed with the idea of a three way rig with the jig on bottom and trying a floating jig head w/minnow on top.  Mainly, I just wanted to tell you how very pleased I was with the video.  The drawn dam graphic was a great idea, the tips were great, the workshop portion was very informative.  Great from start to finish.  Thanks. Jim

Mr. Duckworth,

Philip Price again from North Carolina. Just thought I would let you know that the noodle jugs are working great on Lake Norman. Last night I  caught 11 catfish on 15 noodles. The funny thing is that I caught all  three species of cats, channels, blues, and a flathead all un cutbait. Fishing live bait on jugs or limblines is illegal. The flathead was almost 25 pounds. Thanks for all the info. that you have shared, and proof that the system works. One question....I am fishing creeks in the  upper end of the lake now, but as the water warms in summer would you  move down the lake into the lower section and fish creeks there? Norman  is real long with lots of large creeks, but the upper section is more  riverine. When the water gets in the 80's in summer would you move down  the lake and fish creeks there?

 Thanks,  Philip
