Well i really haven’t seen the lake this clear in a long time. Fished the lower side of the lake today. Got out early, trying some topwater and that just didn’t work out. Finding lots of smaller fish , just not the size i’d like. Jim…. You think the spawn is about over? Or do you think these fish are spawning a little deeper, because of the clearer water and lack of rain? Not a great bite going on right now, just spotty. I can’t get any topwater bites at all. I guess i’m going to go deeper and stay there. The shallow bite just isn’t working for me. Looking for some bigger bites and a little advice. TC/ Hermitage. …….On a side note: The hick is getting beat to death this year. Never saw nor heard of this many tournaments. Seems like it’s three a week on average. Old lake is taking a beating this year.

Jim
I think most of the fish spawned or tried to spawn but when the water temp fell I think it really messed up the spawn, If you have noticed you don’t see hardly any fry running the banks which is what helps the topwater bite and also tells me we had a bad spawn. I would suggest you fish a carolina rig on the ends of points and humps and you should find some good fish there. Jim

you had any luck on center hill bass lately?

I have been having a hard time putting a pattern together for the last month but I finally figured out the lower end of the lake was turning over and soon as I went above Hurricane bridge I was able to catch fish everywhere they should be. I have been topwater fishing in the morning then going to a 200 bandit on the points and then going to a Bandit Ledge bait
( a new model ) and stayed fishing the main lake points down a little deeper and the best color has been rootbeer, hope that helps. Jim

Fished Old Hickory yesterday for 6 hours. Water temp on the surface in some of the major Creeks was around 60 degrees yesterday afternoon. Finding a few scattered fish here and there and all pale as can be. Jim…. Water is cold, they’re pulling the crap out of current. What can i do to put a few more fish in the boat this time of year? Or just something more consistent than just running the crap out of water? Jerkbait on points?

My thought would be take a red flat bait like a Sebile or a rattle trap and fish all the spawning flats and cover water. What you desribed is ths classic case of the fish heading for the bank to spawn and also there should be some big fish on the first drop next to the spawning flat and use a 200 bandit in red or drag a big worm down those drops and stay in the backs of creeks and away from the river and look for the warmest water, good luck. Jim

Hey bobby, east fork delineation is Walter hill dam. West fork is definitely downstream of nice mill. Would be first riffle area as coming upstream from the lake if in a boat. Todd

Message This is follow up to my last post. The state has no length limit on black bass (largemouth, smallmouth, spotted and coosa), but there is a 5 fish creel limit. Percy Priest Lake has a length limit of 15 inches for largemouth, and 18 inches for small mouth. I’m just not sure where the Priest limit starts and the state (no) limit ends. If it is just in the lake itself, or in the Stones River along the entire length. Rcranfield
